The Cerbiatti del nostro futuro (Fawns of Our Future) project was started in 2011 with the purpose of creating and developing a contemporary dance repertory with choreography by Virgilio Sieni, intended for and performed by very young dancers.
The project calls for the involvement of schools, institutes, theatres, and festivals throughout Italy, and is divided into three parts. The first covers choreographic creation, the second concerns the transmission of the repertory, and the third opens up opportunities for gatherings and exchanges.
The first choreography in the “Cerbiatti del nostro futuro” project, Fuga (Escape), was inspired by the meaning of a path taken to a new land. During the choreographed and physical trip, the children support and help each other, giving life to a continuous whole made of contacts and reference figures. Tactile, pictorial, and photographic elements guided the creation: from paintings that retrace the Flight into Egypt to photographs that attest to modern migrations and escapes. The urgency of the dance as a founding moment of a journey can be read in the tenderness and life force of the very young dancers.
The enthusiasm of the young dancers from Livorno, expressed magnificently in the dance, is at the origin of the "Cerbiatti del nostro futuro" project. The choreography presented in In ascolto (Listening) was inspired by the written work All'ascolto (Listening) by Jean- Luc Nancy, and is a study on the implications of being in listening, understanding, and lending an ear. Guided by their own breath, the dancers search for another voice, that of the body, and another sound. Being in listening means being continuously on the edge, straining toward something, toward accessing the self through breathing, the heart, and the resonant cavity.
Choreographer and dancer, he founded in 1983, the Company Butterfly Park and in 1992 the Compagny Virgilio Sieni, becoming one of the protagonists of contemporary European scene. He creates shows for the highest Italian musical institutions and won numerous awards (Ubu, Danza&Danza, Lo straniero, ANCT). In 2013 he became director of the Venice Biennale - Dance Sector and was appointed Chevalier de l'ordres des arts et de lettres by the French Minister of culture. It represents the Italy in Marseille European Capital of Culture in 2013, with « Arte del gesto nel Mediterraneo » involving 160 performers from different countries, both in Brussels and in the scope of the italian semester of the Presidency of the EU 2014 with the project « Vita Nova » about the sacred iconography to the Bozar in Brussels. In 2015 he realizes for the Prada Foundation in Milan « Atlente del gesto » (Atlas of gesture).
