Choreography: Virgilio Sieni assisted by Chelo Zoppi

A choreography created in the context of the project "Cerbiatti del nostro futuro".

Performed by Bettina Bernardi, Noemi Biancotti, Virginia Cervelli Montel, Linda Pierucci with collaboration of Armunia, Atelier delle Arti

The Cerbiatti del nostro futuro (Fawns of Our Future) project was started in 2011 with the purpose of creating and developing a contemporary dance repertory with choreography by Virgilio Sieni, intended for and performed by very young dancers.
The project calls for the involvement of schools, institutes, theatres, and festivals throughout Italy, and is divided into three parts. The first covers choreographic creation, the second concerns the transmission of the repertory, and the third opens up opportunities for gatherings and exchanges.

The first choreography in the “Cerbiatti del nostro futuro” project, Fuga (Escape), was inspired by the meaning of a path taken to a new land. During the choreographed and physical trip, the children support and help each other, giving life to a continuous whole made of contacts and reference figures. Tactile, pictorial, and photographic elements guided the creation: from paintings that retrace the Flight into Egypt to photographs that attest to modern migrations and escapes. The urgency of the dance as a founding moment of a journey can be read in the tenderness and life force of the very young dancers.

The enthusiasm of the young dancers from Livorno, expressed magnificently in the dance, is at the origin of the "Cerbiatti del nostro futuro" project. The choreography presented in In ascolto (Listening) was inspired by the written work All'ascolto (Listening) by Jean- Luc Nancy, and is a study on the implications of being in listening, understanding, and lending an ear. Guided by their own breath, the dancers search for another voice, that of the body, and another sound. Being in listening means being continuously on the edge, straining toward something, toward accessing the self through breathing, the heart, and the resonant cavity.
