Alain Michard,

Alain Michard is a choreographer. He lives in Rennes, in France.

Starting with dance as his ‘roots’, his work involves leading a wide  range of different artistic projects, using a variety of artistic media  (music, film, photography, writing).
He collaborates with other artists. He also regularly invites local  people and non-professionals to participate in the work he creates (À  domicile, Ecole ouverte).

A common thread in his work is the theme of wandering and journeys, and  the search for a community (for example BING, based on texts by Beckett,  Parkinson). Some pieces are regularly designed for public spaces, and  explore perception, and the imaginary essence of towns and landscapes  (for example Virvoucher, Promenades blanches, Caravane, En son  quartier…).
Another important focus of his work is research on the notion of a  collective History of art, based on living memory and documents: J’ai  tout donné, École ouverte, La carpe et le lapin - cours sauvages de  l'histoire de l'art indompté…In 2016, he resumed his piece, CouaC,  symbol of his work on burlesque and relation to objects.
His connection with cinema and his curiosity for young audiences led him  to create Le beau mariage, which celebrates the link between dance and  cinema.
For En danseuse, he invites many choreographers to create dances filmed  on their relationship to the memory inscribed in their own bodies.

His films include documentaries and fiction, some of which are based on  dance (Ascension, Carton, Encore chaud, ON AIR, Clandestine, Journal  d'En danseuse, Les Garçons).
Since his beginnings, Alain Michard has been supporting and producing  other artists (Theo Kooijman, Laurent Pichaud, Mickaël Phelippeau, Julie  Nioche,..), in his role as artistic director of different festivals,  residencies and events, such as À domicile in Guissény (2007-2009),  École ouverte (2010-2016), Symposium (2018-2019).
His role as producer allows him to support young artists (Alice Gautier,  Florence Casanave, Olga Dukhovnaya...). The passing on of knowledge is  important to him, and his pedagogical work is an integral part of, and  articulates with, his creative work, which is open to artists, students  and non-professionals.

As a performer he has worked principally for Odile Duboc, Marco  Berrettini, Boris Charmatz, Xavier Marchand (theatre) and Judith Cahen  (cinema).
He collaborates regularly on various different projects with other  artists, including : Nicolas Floc’h, Mathias Poisson, Jocelyn Cottencin,  Stalker, and choreographers Mustafa Kaplan, Loïc Touzé…
He co-signed Les Étonnistes with Stéphanie Aubin, Julie Nioche, Michel  Schweizer and Chloé Moglia (2015 at the 104-Paris), and has worked with  Loïc Touzé and Anne Kerzerho for the project Autour de la table since  the fist edition, in 2010 (Istanbul).

His work has led him to a diversity of places and countries :
IN FRANCE : Paris (Théâtre de la Cité Internationale, Centre National de  la Danse, Labos d’Aubervilliers, Centre Pompidou, Grande Halle La  Villette...), Brittany region (PHAKT, Biennale, Triangle, Musée de la  danse, Mac Orlan, Théâtre de Poche, La Passerelle, L'intervalle/Noyal,  Guisseny, etc.), Marseille (Théâtre du Merlan, Marseille Objectif  Danse), Bordeaux (TNT, Novart), Avignon (Hivernales), Montpellier (CCN),  Angers (CNDC), Marne-la-Vallée (Ferme du Buisson), Caen, Strasbourg,  etc.…
AND INTERNATIONALLY : Italy (Musée Pan/Naples, Osservatorio  Nomade/Cursi), Japan (Kyoto, Tokyo, Yokohama, Matsuyama, Onomichi),  Canada (Escales improbables/Montréal), Turkey (Istanbul, Eskisehir,  Ankara), Portugal (Serralves/Porto, Maria Matos/Lisbonne), UK  (Portsmouth), Germany (Tanz im August/Berlin), Belgium  (Raffinerie/Bruxelles, Musée MAS/Anvers), Switzerland (La Bâtie/Geneva),  Brasil (France Danse/Sao Paulo), Ireland (DTI/Dublin)…
He has received awards from the Villa Kujoyama/Kyoto (2001) and the Villa Médicis Hors les murs/Istanbul (2009).
