MAPS - A EUROPEAN PROJECT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIETAL DANCE FILM

mAPs - migrating Artists Project is a transmedia cooperation project between 5 European partners aimed at supporting and supervising high-level professional artists for the production and distribution of dance films questioning today's society around a common theme: Power.
As the Covid-19 pandemic shakes the planet, mAPs' commitment takes on a strong meaning through the construction of an unprecedented inclusive creative approach, supporting a new united conviviality between artists and the general public at the international level. The challenge of this project is the development of innovative narrative processes combining dance and cinema to invite the public to question major contemporary issues in a new way.

AN INNOVATIVE PROCESS

A NEW GENRE

The objective of mAPs is to affirm that danced films are a real genre in the global cinematographic landscape, rich in immense universal value capable of having a real societal impact, necessary on our continent and more widely, in the world. whole. Thanks to its hybrid language, the development and dissemination of dance films acts as a tool for growth in the process of expansion, diversification and involvement of a wider and new audience, through the direct inclusion.

EMBODYING

By promoting the development of transdisciplinary choreographic approaches, mAPs wishes to work on the universality of artistic languages. The European commitment of the collective is reflected in the desire to highlight what brings individuals and people together, in order to strengthen a form of solidarity between them. The work on the body and the image allows it more than other aesthetics.

A EUROPEAN CATALOG

mAPs also sets up the creation of a European catalog of danced films, thus defending the need to propose new narrative processes to reconstruct a European narrative. These processes are aimed at the greatest number and are oriented towards the construction of a common political, social and artistic narrative.

“We're engaged in the stories of tomorrow in order to resist the return of yesterday's stories"

The mAPs project, based on a modern and accessible universal language – the body in motion, visual media and screens, promotes access by a very large audience to these new narrative processes, the keystone of a new stage in European construction.

A DESIRE FOR INCLUSION

TO INCLUDE THE PUBLIC IN THE WORK

In order to share the universality of the languages offered by these transmedia choreographic creations, mAPs relies on a radical inclusion strategy that takes into account the transformations taking place on a global scale.
First, by counting on the explosion of amateur practices around the body and the image. We can also note the access to an exponential supply of images and practices allows citizens to be their own prescribers of artistic content. And finally, the search for new spaces of expression and exchange, facilitating collective participation, the desire to participate in unique moments of civic communion.

STRONG ACTIONS WITH THE PUBLIC

In a complex context with an uncertain future exacerbated by the pandemic, the mAPs project wishes to develop a positive space for expression to invite as many people as possible, in France, but also elsewhere in Europe and around the world, to express themselves on strong issues at the heart of our societal issues.   This space of expression, both physical and digital, gives everyone the opportunity to discover their POWER as a human being, to assert themselves through speech, signs and the body in movement. It makes it possible to share this POWER collectively, to open a citizen dialogue.

IN EACH COUNTRY, AN ANCHORING IN ITS REGION

Each supporting structure develops the project on its territory around a sub-theme that makes it possible to articulate a whole program of inclusive actions aimed at involving local, indigenous populations and people from different waves of migration in this research process.

YOUR STORY / YOUR BODY

DAN.CIN.LAB (France), which has chosen to carry the theme POWER and IDENTITIES, offers a short film with director Aline-Sitoé N'Diaye and choreographer Abdou N'Gom. The theme is approached through inclusive choreographic workshops for the creation of participatory short films around the notion of identity, exchange and collection of personal stories through spoken, signed or danced testimonies and filmed around questions related to the theme by the artists and the inhabitants.

YOU’VE GOT THE POWER ! the mAPs EXPERIENCE

"An immersive and inclusive dance & image course around the theme POWER"

As a final element after the various workshops and the production of the short film, a nomadic exhibition is imagined, in the form of a journey where, through the image, each of the visitors, whatever their identity and situation, will be able to question themselves around the 5 themes related to the POUVOIR subject at the heart of the mAPs project – Data, Identities, Social Mutations, Environment and Powers.

YOU'VE GOT THE POWER! – THE mAPs EXPERIENCE will paint a portrait of a European community in all its diversity, with which visitors will be able to gradually associate themselves by delivering their own spoken/signed and danced testimony as they go along in their immersive journey to finally have the choice to also integrate this European community.

The exhibition will be open to the public from January 22 to February 5, 2022 at the Chapelle des Cordeliers in Clermont Ferrand. It will then tour in 2022 and 2023 with the European collection of dance short films mAPs!

Also not to be missed, the Meeting around Dance at the Cinema / Friday February 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the IADT - Amphitheater - 51 Bd François Mitterrand in Clermont-Ferrand! Free entry.
