Ribeiro, Paulo
Born in Lisbon, Paulo Ribeiro pursued a career as a dancer in dance companies in Belgium and France before asserting himself as a choreographer. He signed his first show in 1984 in Paris with the Stridanse company that he co-founded. On his return to Portugal in 1988, he collaborated with the Lisbon Dance Company and with the Ballet Gulbenkian for which he created a number of works. His career took off internationally as from 1991, thanks to the creation of works for reputed companies: the Nederlands Dans Theater II, the Centre Chorégraphique de Nevers, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Ballet de Lorraine. In 1995, he founded the Paulo Ribeiro company for which he had already created twenty original works including his solo Sem um tu não pode haver um eu, presented at Chaillot in 2015. In 1998 he was named director of the Teatro Viriato in Viseu, Portugal. He has received a number of national and international awards including the Best choreography Award 2010 by the Portuguese Society of Authors with Paisagens - onde o negro é cor. Alongside his work as company author, Paulo Ribeiro also devotes himself to the commission of choreographic events, to coaching and to teaching, in particular at the Conservatoire National de Danse.

Companhia Nacional de Bailado
Companhia Nacional de Bailado (CNB), the National Ballet Company of Portugal, was founded in Lisbon in 1977. CNB is the only national company in Portugal to have a dance season with permanent performers who regularly perform seasons and tours in the countries (including the islands of Madeira and the Azores) and abroad.
Created on the initiative of the government, the company has two complementary objectives. One is the preservation and presentation of the international ballet repertoire, the other is the permanent updating of this art form, presenting modern and contemporary choreographies by national and foreign authors. The result is an extremely eclectic repertoire that spans centuries, styles and techniques while keeping a strong Portuguese and European identity.
Paulo Ribeiro is the artistic director of the company, succeeding LuÃsa Taveira (2010–2016 and 1999–2000), Vasco Wellenkamp (2007–2010), Mehmet Balkan (2002–2007), Marc Jonkers (2001–2002), Jorge Salavisa (1996–1999), Isabel Santa Rosa (1994–1996) and Armando Jorge (1978–1993). CNB is based in Rua VÃtor Cordon, Chiado, Lisbon.
