Soirée d'études
Soirée d’études was born out of Cassiel Gaube’s passion for the vocabulary of house dance, an urban dance he articulates with contemporary dance. Conceived as a series of short, nested pieces, this choreographic “evening” is a duet for three. It was devised with the dancer Diego “Odd Sweet” Dolciami in mind, who was then joined by Federica “Mia” Miani, the performers taking it in turns to compose different duets.
Based on an attempt to map the lexicon of the steps that make up house dance, Soirée d’études deconstructs these steps so as to better play with them. From its characteristic jacking to the rocking of the torso, the ingredients of this style are reappraised through the prism of an encounter between two bodies. In music, a study is viewed as an opportunity to explore the possibilities of a technique; here, Cassiel Gaube, inspired in particular by the works of Bruno Beltrão and William Forsythe, probes the bodily and musical logic of his favourite type of dance.

Gaube, Cassiel
Born in Belgium, the dancer and choreographer Cassiel Gaube graduated from the P.A.R.T.S. school (Brussels) in 2016. As a performer, he has worked with Benjamin Vandewalle, Fabrice Samyn and Manon Santkin, and he spent three years learning house dance in Paris and New York. As an associate artist at the Ménagerie de Verre (Paris) in 2019 and 2020, he created the solo Farmer Train Swirl – Étude (2019) and initiated an ongoing collaboration with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
Centre national de la danse, Réalisation
