Mazarakis, Athena

Mazarakis was born in 1973 in Bloemfontein, Free State South Africa.

She started her dancing career training in ballet, tap and modern as a young girl and formalised her education at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. She graduated with distinction from Rhodes University in 1995 where she trained in the drama department under Gary Gordon and was one of the founding members of The First Physical Theatre Company.

Mazarakis then completed her Masters degree, also with distinction, at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2010 producing the autobiographical Coming To as the practical component to her dissertation: Body of Knowledge: Interrogating Physical Intelligence and the translation of memory into motion in Coming To.

2012 – Present Education Officer at The Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative

2013- Restaging Attachements No 1-7 with Craig Morris, directed by Gerard Bester for the 2013 Aardklop Festival in September.

Bester, Gerard

Gerard was born in Hillbrow (1966), and returned to the area while studying at the Wits School of the Arts. Throughout his career, Bester has danced for Robyn Orlin, PJ Sabbagha and Jean-Paul Delore and collaborated with the likes of Tony Miyambo, Nhlanhla Mahlangu, Luyanda Sidiya and Sue Pam-Grant. Bester explores the post-modern, anti-hero, and naïve clown in his practice. He is now the Creative Director of the Hillbrow Theatre Project, through which he inspires inner-city children and youth to engage with the world in new and exciting ways. 

Morris, Craig

Experienced Performance Specialist with a demonstrated history of working in the entertainment industry. Skilled in Physical Theatre, Mime, Contemporary Dance, Theatre Production, Improvisation, and Palaeontological performance techniques. Experienced Arts Educator across all age groups.

Untouchable Productions was founded by Craig Morris (physical theatre maker, dancer, educator, director and writer), and Roslyn Wood-Morris (educator, choreographer, writer). Craig was awarded the MEC Gauteng Choreography and Dance Award for 2005 for Best Male Dancer in a Contemporary Style. In the same year he was nominated in the same category for four additional Dance performances. He was also selected to perform with Cirque du Soleil. Roslyn has been active in education for almost two decades. She has taught at St Mary’s School for Girls and in that time has also choreographed numerous award-winning professional theatre works.
