Hyperterrestres
Ramalingom and Lachambre are looking for what is held, in their earthly depths.
The creation process is a movement between resistance and fusion.
The pressure drops and the bodies relax. They seem to want to be in sync with the
exhaustion of the trance. Fabrice “metamorphosis,” and Benoît “transmission,”
their dual encounter was once unclear, but it tends towards the inevitable.
The rumblings of the body, with earthly tensions…
Filmed at the Théâtre de Grammont - Montpellier, as part of the Festival Montpellier Danse 2015.
Ramalingom, Fabrice
Fabrice Ramalingom started dancing at around the age of 19 years old and then trained between 1986 and 1988 at the National Center of Contemporary Dance in Angers, which was then directed by Michel Reilhac. Then he began his career as a dancer and performer at the National Choreographic Center of Montpellier in France.
He worked there for Dominique Bagouet, an iconic French choreographer known for the intelligence of his writing and the importance of his work in French choreography. He also danced in the work One Story As in Falling conceived by Trisha Brown ,one of the emblematic American choreographers of post-modern dance.
In 1992, after the death of Dominique Bagouet, the dancers from the former company founded the Carnets Bagouet. The ensemble sees itself as an archive for analysis and passing on the works of the deceased choreographer. Fabrice Ramalingom was an active member of the ensemble until 2003 and took part in the transmission of one of the most important pieces of Bagouet's repertoire, So Schnell (1998), which was developed with dancers from the Opéra de Paris. He was also the artistic director in the restaging of Meublé Sommairement, in which dance enters an alliance with the text of the novel Aftalion Alexandre(2000) by Emmanuel Bove.
In 1993, he met Hélène Cathala within The Compagnie Bagouet. Together, they founded the ensemble La Camionetta. Their choreographic cooperation resulted in eleven works. In 2003, Fabrice Ramalingom began his solo career as a choreographer, and staged the work Implication ; later, in 2004, Touché and Mis Bolivias (creation for a cooperation french and bolivian supported by the French Embassy of Bolivia). Within the Camionetta Company, Fabrice Ramalingom gaimed experience as an artist collaborating with the Théâtre de l'équinoxe in Chateauroux (1998), also with the Théâtre of Nîmes (1997-2000) and at the Scène Nationale of Sète and of
the Bassin de Thau(2004-2007). In 2000 and 2001, he was advisor for the programming of the festival Jours de Danse in Nîmes. In 2002, in Montpellier, he experimented the notion of interdisciplinarity by creating, with two directors and three choreographers, the ensemble Changement de Propriétaire, which is an alternative place of production and creation, where lessons are proposed along with performances and experimental project.
After thirteen years, the collaboration between Fabrice Ramalingom and Hélène Cathala ceased and the adventure of The Camionnetta came to an end. In 2006, he founded his own company : R.A.M.a.
In 2007,he created the solo Comment Se Ment and Postural :Etudes, a performance for 15 men for the Festival Montpellier Danse.
In 2008,he created Vancouver Versus Vancouver at the International Dance Festival in Vancouver, a duet for two canadian performers and Fiction in Between, a duet which he perfoms with the austrian Saskia Holbing.
In 2008 and 2009, Fabrice was an artist in residence in the Aude area in the framework of the Rési-Dence Départementale directed by the Conseil Général ADDMD11.
In 2010 for the 30th anniversary of the Festival Montpellier Danse, Fabrice will perform Pandora Box / Body at the Théâtre de l'Agora, cité internationale de la danse.
Alongside his work as a choreographer, he has continued to be active as a performer and has appeared in the following works: Flowing Along by Hervé Robbe (1994),
CPAD by Yvonne Rainer, taken up again and « reactivated » by Quatuor Knust(1998), PAST/FORWARD by the White Oak Project/Mikhail Barishnikov company (2001), Barakooda by Yves Noël Genod, Lugares Comunes (2006) by Benoit Lachambre and Quintet Cercle (2007) by Boris Chamatz. Since his first experience as a performer
at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, Fabrice Ramalingom has been interested and engaged in the transmission and teaching in its various forms (vocational training, intervention in universities, master classes, danced lectures, courses and workshops for amateur adults or children). He also works with professional companies such as Phillipe Decoufflé or as those of national choreographic centers : the Montpellier center first directed by Dominique Bagouet and then by Mathilde Monnier or the center of Tours headed by Daniel Larrieu.
In 2005 he was appointed artistic advisor for the training EX.E.R.CE at the Centre Chorégraphique National of Montpellier, led by Mathilde Monnier.

Lachambre, Benoît
Active in the dance community since the 1970s, Benoît Lachambre first learned about Releasing in 1985. This kinesthetic approach to movement and its use of improvisation became an important influence on his choreographic work. He decided to immerse himself in an exploratory approach to movement and its sources, to seek out the authenticity of movement. His work, both as a choreographer and a performer, has at its centre the hyper-awareness of the senses, and the connection between the somatic and the artistic is central to his practice.
Using a range of movement that draws upon the realm of possibility, Lachambre invites the dancers and the audience to re-connect with a deep awareness of feeling and perception. As he creates these ever-changing corporeal and spatial architectures, Benoît Lachambre hopes to rebuild the connections between bodies, and bring them back to their energetic, organic and perceptive function. Central to his practice is the idea of detachment, relieving the body from the constraints that political, socio-cultural and esthetic hierarchies can entail.
In his creations, Benoît Lachambre works on the performer’s dynamic, to change his or her empathetic experience with the audience. He aims to bring the dancer’s consciousness back to primordial feeling. The choreographic impulse becomes an active, palpable process of ‘letting go,’ which is re-invented again and again… There is something quite radical about his approach to choreography. His deep research into the hyper-awareness of the senses, based on somatic practice, is achieved by re-positioning affect in a context and a space, a living space. Among some of Lachambre’s most important influences are Meg Stuart (with whom he regularly collaborates), Joan Skinner, and Amélia Itcush for her work on the distribution of weight and strength in the body. Along with his work as choreographer and performer, Benoît Lachambre is known for his talent as an educator, having given classes and workshops around the world over the last 25 years.
He founded his own company in Montréal in 1996, christening it Par B.L.eux, ‘B.L.’ for his own initials and ‘eux’ for the artists he chooses to collaborate with, and who have become central to his artistic process. He fosters opportunities for encounter and exchange, and has worked with such internationally-renowned artists as Boris Charmatz, Sasha Waltz, Marie Chouinard, Louise Lecavalier, Fabrice Ramalingom as well as Meg Stuart and musician Hahn Rowe.
Benoît Lachambre is one of the foremost artist-choreographer-performers of his generation. He has created 17 works for his own company since Par B.L.eux was founded, and participated in more than 20 productions by other companies, in addition to some 25 commissioned works, including "I is memory" (2006, a solo for Louise Lecavalier) and the pieces "JJ’s Voices" (2009) and "High heels too" (2013), for the Cullberg Ballet.
In November 2013, Benoît Lachambre received the Grand prix de la Danse de Montréal for his exceptional contribution to the choreographic arts, following the presentation in Montreal of the work Snakeskins, a ‘false solo.’ In December 2014, he received the award for ‘Best choreographic work’ from the CALQ for "Prismes", which was created for Montréal Danse. "Hyperterrestres", created with choreographer Fabrice Ramalingom and composer Hahn Rowe, had its North American première during the 9th Festival TransAmériques (FTA) in 2015.
His latest solo work, "Lifeguard", seeks to further deconstruct the notion of the choreographic impulse, and will have its world première in Paris at the Festival June Events in June 2016.

Par B.L.eux
Artistic direction: Benoît Lachambre
Creation: 1996
Par B.L.eux, the company for contemporary creation, re-defines dance by emphasizing the importance of dialogue between choreographers and collaborators. Benoît Lachambre puts into practice an approach that shares Somatic practices, that he draws upon for his creations, performances and workshops.
With thirty years of solid experience behind him as a choreographer, performer, improviser and teacher, active in North America as well as in Europe, Benoît Lachambre created his company in 1996 out of the need for a platform that would allow him to produce his research projects and develop an original creative structure. So, Par B.L.eux (‘B.L.’ for his own initials and ‘eux’ for ‘them,’ his collaborators) was born and its mission is as follows: to create and produce works in a spirit of openness and collaboration, while encouraging inter-disciplinary relationships in dance. The company helps to promote international exchanges and multiplies opportunities for encounters between artists from diverse artistic and geographic backgrounds. Par B.L.eux believes that the evolution of dance feeds off of an abundance of ideas, and dynamic, continuous exchange of artistic practice and concepts.
Through his own artistic process, Benoît Lachambre cultivates grounds and forums for meetings and exploration, where the space for creation is wide open. Since the foundation of the company in 1996, Par B.L.eux has created seventeen pieces, including several collaborations. Par B.L.eux embraces experimental techniques and approaches in dance (releasing, improvisation, composition, body consciousness) for which Benoît Lachambre is renowned, thanks to his workshops and teaching activities around the world. His skills are very much in demand and these workshops often serve as a springboard for the discovery of his works. The company is also dedicated to supporting the new generation of dancers and choreographers by providing technical support and mentorship.
