Choreographer Rafaela Carrasco
Dance performance Cia Rafaela Carrasco
"De l'amour et d'autres choses", is the subject of this work by Rafaela Carrasco. The story of two lovers after their first meeting or the eternal ever-told subject, from Shakespeare
to Georges Sand. Although it has been hackneyed over and over, the subject is still a current and inexhaustible one, whether it be in life, in literature, music or theatre. The flamenco, with its sensuality and fury, lends itself particularly to the exercise. Over six decors, the choreographer and her partner, Daniel Doña, throw themselves headlong into a vibrant duo, celebrating love, the fruit of passion, love that believes and then dies, love that leaves traces.
“Nowadays, the fragility of human relationships, “liquid” love as Zigmunt Barman defined it, is a theme that is just as current and inexhaustible as it was hundreds of years ago” explains the choreographer. It couldn't be said better.
“Years of experience, of work and of maturity don't change your dance, they change you inside and that can be seen on the outside”.

Carrasco, Rafaela
Student, flamenco dancer, repetiteur, soloist, choreographer and, today, artistic director of the Andalusian Flamenco Ballet, the former Andalusian Dance Company. Since 1994 Rafaela has been all of these: a dance activist who committed herself right from the start to this public project. Hailing from Sevilla, she began to study dance at the age of 8 with Matilde Coral. Aged 18, she joined Mario Maya’s company where she became principal dancer and repetiteur. Later, she formed part of the Andalusian Dance Company as a soloist and participated in the productions De lo flamenco and Réquiem (1994) and Los Caminos de Lorca (2004).
She has performed in the Tablaos of Los Gallos in Sevilla, in the Café de Chinitas in Madrid, and in El Flamenco in Tokyo. In 1996, she left Sevilla for Madrid where she danced, choreographed, and began to develop a flourishing teaching business. She gives flamenco classes of all levels throughout the world. Since it was first set up, Rafaela Carrasco’s company has created nine productions, including choreographies for the Spanish National Ballet, the Flamenco Festival and the Sevilla Flamenco Biennial where she was awarded major prizes. It is for this professional career and for her experience in consolidating her own company that Rafaela Carrasco was selected in September 2013 as choreographer for the Andalusian Flamenco Ballet.
