Davy Brun is flying high: over the past few months, everything has speeded up intensely for this young choreographer from Lyon. Invited to present a duo at the Maison de la Danse's Studio Jorge Donn last season, laureate of the [re]connaissance Award in 2011, he has also been highly requested by the Ballet of Mainz in Germany. His eight years working with the Ballet of the Opera of Lyon and his three years with the Grand Théâtre of Geneva provided him with the opportunity to discover a wide range of body movements. Dancing for the greatest contemporary choreographers inspired him to create his own choreographies. So, what has he kept from classical dance, non-dance and contemporary dance? Aesthetics, movement, a line of thought. His choreographic research, marked by his many encounters, aims to create a “danced dance”, where he will be able to use the abundant wealth of the various forms of dance that he has discovered through his own experience. The project for the piece of work originally stemmed from his discovery of musical works from the 15th century, which may have been composed by Cristobal Colon (Christoffa in Genovese), a little-known 15th century musician or, why not even his brother, Bartolomeo. A genuine discovery epitomized by incredible dancers that Davy Brun met at the Lyon Opéra Ballet, the Ballet of Monte-Carlo and the Béjart Ballet in Lausanne.

Brun, Davy

A dancer and young choreographer, Davy Brun began his training at the Conservatoire National de Région in Lyon, before joining the École de Danse de l’Opéra de Paris and training with his dance master, Max Bozzoni. The eight years he spent at the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon and his three years with the Grand Théâtre de Genève allowed him to discover multiple gestures. His work with the leading contemporary choreographers, Mats Ek, Trisha Brown, William Forsythe, Maguy Marin, Philippe Decouflé, Mathilde Monnier, Jirí Kylián, and Nacho Duato, inspired in him a strong wish to live out other experiences as a free-lancer and encouraged him to create his own choreographies: “Ando” (2006) and “El Parajò de Fuego” (2013) for the Choreographic Centre of Valencia, “Pointless Monkey” in 2007 for the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, “Nosotros” in 2008 for LaMov in Zaragoza, “À Contre Danse” in 2009 for his own company Ando Danse Cie, and “Curse” in 2010 for the Bouand dance Company in Portland. In March 2012, Davy Brun created a work for six dancers, “Christoffa”, at Le Toboggan in Décines in coproduction with La Maison de la Danse. He created the solo, “Renaissance”, and the piece for dancer and visual artist, Emergence.

Plasson, Fabien

Born in 1977, Fabien Plasson is a video director specialized in the field of performing arts (dance , music, etc).

During his studies at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (joined in 1995) Fabien discovered video art. He was trained by various video artists (Joel Bartoloméo Pascal Nottoli , Eric Duyckaerts , etc) .
He first experimented with the creation of installations and cinematic objects.

From 2001 to 2011, he was in charge of Ginger & Fred video Bar’s programming at La Maison de la Danse in Lyon. He discovered the choreographic field and the importance of this medium in the dissemination, mediation and pedagogical approach to dance alongside Charles Picq, who was a brilliant video director and the director of the video department at that time.

Today, Fabien Plasson is the video director at La Maison de la Danse and in charge of the video section of Numeridanse.tv, an online international  video library, and continues his creative activities, making videos of concerts, performances and also creating video sets for live performances.

In the 1970s, artists’ drive towards a new classic had been ongoing for more than a half century and several generations had already formed since the Russian Ballets. As the years went by, everyone defended or defends classical dance as innovative, unique, connected to the other arts and the preoccupations of its time.
