Gestos de mujer

Austerity is one of the key aspects of the show. Mercedes Ruiz' restrained elegance stands out against a discreet display of lights and uncomplicated staging. Both the stage design and the choreography are completely transformed in every piece, as if they were different paintings – but nothing jars, the contrasts are not too strong…

The music, composed by Santiago Lara, Manolo Sanlúcar's second guitar player (record: “Medea 2002” ), perfectly suits the style of the dancer, a combination of Andalusian tradition marked by the energy and modernity of youth.
The double bass gives the piece an unusual colour and an intimate character.

Author, filmmaker and video artist Charles Picq (1952-2012) entered working life in the 70s through theatre and photography. A- fter resuming his studies (Maîtrise de Linguistique - Lyon ii, Maîtrise des sciences et Techniques de la Communication - grenoble iii), he then focused on video, first in the field of fine arts at the espace Lyonnais d'art Contemporain (ELAC) and with the group « Frigo », and then in dance.
