Body and Forgetting
"I began looking at the writings of Milan Kundera and was particularly interested in his stories of disappearance, his descriptions of the properties of memory and how he portrays the complexities of loss and betrayal. I imagined a nuanced, subtle performance world where the interaction between the dancers would give the feeling that every moment was marked, necessary and given weight.
The performers engage with the material in a heightened manner and this in turn adds a texture and depth that heightens the experience of the spectator in turn.
The exploration of memory, disappearance and separation are occurring themes in my work. I come from a society which has experienced struggle, loss and ultimately dissociation. It continues to deal with the latter."
