A unique institution
Founded in 1998, the Centre national de la danse (CND) has advantages which make it a unique centre dedicated to dance. Its strengths come from its assets: the skills of its staff and the diversity of specialisation offered; a renovated and comfortable building in Pantin (Paris), eleven studios, three of which are open to the public for shows or performances, a multimedia library, a projection room, collections and a whole range of training courses, resources and services for professionals and companies. The Lyon/Rhône-Alpes CND provides continuity for all the projects in its region.
With its active policy of support for creation and performance, the CND encourages encounters between audiences and professionals in all aesthetic styles. The services and resources available are aimed at all those involved in the field: (dancers, choreographers, researchers, promoters, companies, creative studios and performance venues, training establishments and dance schools, cultural organisations, etc.). The CND’s operation thus contributes to a better knowledge and appreciation of dance in all its diversity and uniqueness.
The CND's contribution to the "Numeridanse.tv" project
The CND has its own channel on numeridanse.tv, whose main feature is the availabilty of audiovisual documentary resources produced from recording its performance and teaching programme, resources about the culture of choreography (interviews, lectures illustrated with dance, meetings with artists, demonstrations, master-classes, specialist symposiums, themed montages, etc.) or from the archive stock in its possession. This latter collection of unpublished items is a particularly significant source of knowledge about companies, works and personalities in twentieth and twenty-first century choreography, and includes collections linked to dance artists, teachers, experts, notators and theorists, as well as performance venues and specialist bodies, and about plastic artists working in other creative fields.
